A beautifully crafted violin made in 2018 at the Ecoviolin workshop in Reghin, Transylvania, Romania, by violin maker Claudiu Durlicioiu. This instrument follows the model of Ansaldo Poggi, and combines traditional Italian-inspired violin making with carefully selected Romanian tonewood.
Claudiu Durlicioiu is associated with Ecoviolin Instruments in Reghin, a city with a long-standing tradition of stringed-instrument making. Ecoviolin produces handmade violins, violas, cellos and double basses, while the associated Durly Tonewood company has been working with violin-making tonewood in Reghin since 1997. The region is particularly known for its spruce and maple from the Romanian Carpathian Mountains.
This violin is made from 20+ year aged Carpathian spruce and highly figured curly maple. The instrument has an oil varnish, giving the wood a warm, traditional appearance while allowing the natural figure of the maple to remain visible.
The Ansaldo Poggi model provides a classic Italian-inspired form, with carefully proportioned bouts and a full-size body measuring 349 mm in length.
