A beautifully crafted violin made in 2018 at the Ecoviolin workshop in Reghin, Transylvania, Romania, by violin maker Claudiu Durlicioiu. This instrument follows the model of Ansaldo Poggi , and combines traditional Italian-inspired violin making with carefully selected Romanian tonewood.
Claudiu Durlicioiu is associated with Ecoviolin Instruments in Reghin, a city with a long-standing tradition of stringed-instrument making. Ecoviolin produces handmade violins, violas, cellos and double basses, while the associated Durly Tonewood company has been working with violin-making tonewood in Reghin since 1997. The region is particularly known for its spruce and maple from the Romanian Carpathian Mountains.
This violin is made from 20+ year aged Carpathian spruce and highly figured curly maple . The instrument has an oil varnish , giving the wood a warm, traditional appearance while allowing the natural figure of the maple to remain visible.
The Ansaldo Poggi model provides a classic Italian-inspired form, with carefully proportioned bouts and a full-size body measuring 349 mm in length.
